Life as seen through my lens…

I ‘heart’ Camera West

A couple of days ago I had the pleasure of attending a night photography ‘workshop’ organized by Camera West of Walnut Creek, and led by Leica’s Tom Brichta with help from Camera West’s Michael Maloney and Hal Kam.

Hal kept us all under control as we made our way across San Francisco to four different shooting locations, and Tom, Hal, and Michael were always on hand to offer help, advice, and encouragement.

I’d have loved to have been shooting with some of the kit I saw in use during the workshop, but accompanied by my humble Nikon D7000 I was able to get some shots that I am proud of, even though it is clear that I still have a lot to learn.

Thank you guys!

Check out their view of the event, including a shot of me in ‘action’ in Union Square at their blog…

This is one of my favorite shots from the evening…

    Hi John…
Thanks for looking at my shots. Hope you’ll check out stevan.smugmug.com. Anyway, couldn’t find your email address to reply to your questions sent my from your flickr account. Used 6-point Hoya star filter which, frankly, I find a bit overdone. Have not tried the D7000 in-camera star filter. If you do, let me know what you think.

Hi Stevan, I’ll go and take a good look when I’m not at work – from a cursory glance looks like you have some great stuff up there. I suspected it was the filter, but as we’d talked (albeit briefly) about in-camera stars I wondered if that is what you had done. I’ve played briefly with it but not really used it in earnest yet. Anyway – nice to see you over ‘here’. and nice to see some of the shots you took last week – it’s always interesting to see how different people see and capture the same place! 🙂
